Day 61 An Anchor Stops Things.

Branch Staton

Response Commentary to corresponding entry from the Devotional "Man of Purpose and Power" by Dr. Myles Munroe.

Scientific geologists mostly agree that the Grand Canyon was formed when the Colorado rivers started carving through layers of volcanic rock at least five million years ago. The result of the constant flow of water over such an extended period of time created a landscape that rivals the other wonders of the world. The history is flawed here (See Is Genesis History YouTube), but the principle can be applied. Such is the life of man, when subject to a steady stream of influences, whether positive or negative, they transform and shape who he becomes. In the lives of the children God places in our care, we don't face a slow-moving stream of influences; we face raging Rapids in a hurricane! The devastating influences they are subject to in the world, from their friends in school (or even teachers who do not honor God with worldly ideological instruction), the music they hear, the broadcast and streaming media they subscribe to on their computers, television, tablets, and phones, don't wait for years to subtly convert and corrupt their hearts they are unafraid and ready to offend any precept of God within seconds of gaining our children's attention. The goal of these worldly influences is to immediately consume and destroy the concept of godly love and replace it with a version of love that glorifies self, and lust (of every kind), “Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (CSB). But thankfully, their seasons of greatest vulnerability are not enduring when as parents we anchor them amidst this raging current of sinful influence. Creating a safe environment, uncompromising, and securing our households from ungodly influence, will enable them to weather the storm until they are secure in the Lord.
